Massage and Bodywork

Find balance and ease in your body through our massage therapy services at Duke Integrative Medicine. Our approach is centered on your specific needs--chronic body tension or pain, deep relaxation or health restoration. Our goal is to support your optimal overall health by working with the body through mindfulness and skillful touch.

Our skilled team of licensed massage therapists specializes in the following:

Massage and BodyworkIntegrative Massage:
A blend of techniques including: Swedish, Myofascial (or deep tissue) massage, Reflexology, Energy work and Somatic Therapy (mind/body) practices.

Trigger Point Therapy:
A type of massage used to relieve muscle spasms. The therapist uses fingers, knuckles or elbows to apply pressure for several seconds to trigger points, which are areas of affected muscle that are in pain. Trigger Point Therapy is done to stop the spasm and ultimately ease the pain by relaxing the muscle and increasing the amount of blood and oxygen that reaches it.

Myokinesthetic Treatments:
A nerve specific muscle technique that alleviates chronic muscular and joint pain, restores function and movement, and improves balance and posture. This is a 20 minute treatment that is done fully clothed.

Myofascial Release:
An approach that releases the chronic patterns of tension in the body through slow strokes and deep pressure on the contracted areas, either following or going across the grain of muscles, tendons and connective tissue.

Sports Massage:
Therapeutic soft tissue massage, gentle mobilization, and stretching techniques to restore function to muscles and joints before, during, and following exercise and other athletic activities.

Pregnancy/Postpartum Massage:
A gentle massage that provides relief from discomfort associated with pregnancy. The effects of this approach have been shown to relieve nausea, increase, circulation, increase the flow of nutrients to the placenta, aid in postural realignment, provide relief to joint discomfort, diminish minor swelling, and enhance awareness of body tension patterns.

Reflexology:
A balancing and grounding ancient treatment that focuses on reflex points on your feet to improve circulation, revitalize energy levels, ease pain, and increase relaxation in the body

Polarity Therapy:
A form of subtle energy balancing based on the belief that life energy flows through the body and that it can be detected and influenced by the movements of the practitioner’s hands. Your session will aim to correct imbalances and enable optimal physical, emotional, and spiritual functioning. This subtle energy work can be done in conjunction with massage therapy.
